Q.What's wherefore in Romeo and Juliet?
A.'Wherefore art thou Romeo?' means 'why', not 'where', as in 'Why are you Romeo, a Montague?'. The next line is 'Deny thy father and refuse thy name'.
A.'Why' means for what cause, reason, or purpose; on what account; or wherefore. Why is the 1st solo single by Annie Lennox & was from her debut album.
Q.Give us another wherefore.
A.It is an ancient mariner, And he stoppeth one of three. By thy long grey beard and glittering eye, Now wherefore stopp'st thou me?. S Coleridge, 1798.
