Q.Why do we turn the clocks forwards and back?
A.The clocks have been changed twice a year since 1916 to maximise evening daylight during the summer, while still having some light on winter mornings.
Q.Why in tennis scoring is it 15, 30, 40 and not 1, 2, 3?
A.The tennis scoring system - 15, 30, 40 - is taken from the clock face (45 was too long a word). Deuce is from "a deux du jeu" - 2 points from the game.
Q.What is the number for the speaking clock?
A.The speaking clock, on O2, Vodafone & BT landlines, is on 123. On other networks, or to avoid extra charges on top of contract minutes, use 02070431320.
