Q.How did harrods get its name?
A.Harrods is named after Charles Henry Harrod, who founded the store in 1851. He originally had another store in Stepney, which opened in 1834.
Q.Where was the 1st place in England to have an escalator?
A.Britain's first escalator was installed in Harrods in 1898. Attendants stood at the top to offer nervous customers smelling salts or a tot of brandy.
Q.When did Al Fayed take over Harrods?
A.Mohamed Al-Fayed bought Harrods in 1985 for £615m. He has sold it to the Qatari royal family for £1.5bn, but will be chairman. It was founded in 1834.
